Western Knowledge

Editorial policy

Western Knowledge aims to make explanations of landscape clear, grounded and honest about what can and cannot be inferred from visible evidence.

Accuracy and context

We check factual claims against reliable reference material appropriate to the subject and review wording for clarity. We distinguish established information from interpretation, avoid presenting a single explanation as certain when evidence is incomplete, and revise material when a meaningful error is identified.

Independence and interests

Editorial decisions are made for reader value and fit with the publication's subject. A commercial relationship does not determine the conclusions of an editorial piece. Material created with a partner's involvement is identified plainly so readers can recognise its nature.

Corrections

Readers can report a suspected error through the Contact page. We assess the point, correct confirmed mistakes and make a clear note when a change materially affects a piece. A correction should clarify the record rather than conceal the change.

Illustrations and labels

Some illustrations may be generated with artificial intelligence. We label them where their origin could affect how a reader interprets the image, and do not present illustrative imagery as documentary evidence of a real place.
